Marta Williams, the weaver, detailed her concept for the project as well as her weaving technique. Team members visited her studio and photographed her weaving and finishing processes. Sandra Hanert then detailed her approach to the painting of the canvas. She provided some of her preliminary sketches, as well as, tests of her chosen medium on swatches of the canvas. The words and images of both artists were combined to document their processes onto four Storyboards which were printed on background images of the original canvas design. THE PAINTING process has been an exercise in discovery for the artist, Sandra Hanert.
- A rough design was created using the church windows as inspiration.
- Color and line experimentation ensued.
- A small draft painting was loosely completed on a woven sample.
- Visual Arts Team (VAT) provided suggestions.
- The surface of the 20 X 30 canvas was prepared, and the design transferred.
The painting (Interwoven Windows) was completed over a seven-month timeframe.
